OPEN DOORS AND OPPORTUNITIES
It was my privilege, along with Tom Dunbar (retired World Gospel Mission missionary), to spend over two weeks in Guatemala City and other areas of the country. We traveled approximately 1300 kilometers (around 800 miles) overland to seven different cities and communities, speaking over 30 times to 1500 to 2000 peoplewhether it was to congregations, pastors, lay leaders, married couples, young people, not to mention the outreach on radio. We were treated royally with great hospitality and blessed with a daily diet of beans, tortillas, eggs, and coffee.
A LAND OF BEAUTY
Guatemala, meaning the land of the trees, is a beautiful mountainous tropical country located in the heart of Central America. Even though Spanish is the official language, there are 24 indigenous languages that are still spoken. And thanks to the past efforts of pioneer missionaries and the present ministries of numerous churches and denominations throughout the land, Guatemala now has a very high percentage of evangelical Christians. Yet, there is much more work to be done as as the country faces a formidable crime wave.
RENEWAL AND REVIVAL
God moved in hearts as many night after night came forward seeking forgiveness and purity, many with tears who poured their hearts out to the Lord. Church leadersand pastors also responded and eagerly absorbed the Word, and were challenged to live pure and spirit-filled lives in their communities and churches. Couples received marital counseling on how to have a stable and lasting marriage in the midst of today’s pressures and temptations. Numerous young people made spiritual commitments and vows toward sexual purity. God be praised!

My deepest gratitude to the Francis Asbury Society, faithful donors, and to the generous offerings of the Guatemalan churches that made our trip to Guatemala, and travels in the country possible. Our heart-felt thanks to pastors Ana and Rivera who arranged the meetings in Guatemala City, and to pastor Elías who provided transportation and coordinated all of the events that were held in other regions of the country. And last but not least, a big thank you to my wife, Karol, who packs my suitcase and follows me with her prayers during the days I am away from home. I am grateful for her support.
