Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. (I Sam. 16:7)

This Bible study examines the life of David, the greatest king in history! David’s reign set the standard for all who would follow. Equally gifted with harp and sling, he could praise God one moment and kill his enemies the next. One day sacrificially serving his people and the next committing adultery with his neighbor’s wife. Loved and adored one moment, he could be hated and vilified the next. King David led his nation to noble heights and to ignoble lows. What a mass of contradictions! How to account for such paradoxical realities in one person? What made him tick? Though we examine David’s outward deeds, we especially focus on his heart. David’s life helps us to understand that the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.

During the Spring semester of 2012, Dr. John Oswalt led a 16-week Bible study through the entire book of Exodus. At the request of many of our long-distance friends, we have recorded and compiled the complete study into a series of 16 videos that are available to order from our Bookstore, or download the student guides, and watch the videos online now.

When Jesus called his disciples, he said simply, “Follow me.” He was inviting them on a journey. He himself would show the way. In fact, he was the way (John 14:6)! The classic biblical description of this journey with God is the story of how Israel left Egypt, guided by the pillar of fire as it led them to the Land of Promise. This two-volume study follows the route the Hebrews took on their journey as they passed through the Red Sea, spent time at Marah (the bitter place), camped at Mount Sinai, turned back in fear at Kadesh Barnea, wandered in circles in the desert for forty years, crossed the Jordan River, and fought the battle of Jericho. The geography of salvation helps us to understand not only their journey, but ours!

Don’t waste your life doing laps in the wilderness. Cross over into the blessings of the inheritance that God has prepared for you!

“He brought us out… that he might bring us in…” (Deuteronomy 6:23)

Our focus of this study is the book of 2 Chronicles and centered on the eight good kings of Judah (Asa, Jehoshaphat, Joash, etc.).  Each session examines the strengths and especially the weaknesses of these good men.  The study zeroes in on the character flaws, highlighted by Scripture, that ultimately brought about the moral failure of these otherwise godly personalities.  The study enriches our understanding of leadership, temptation, godliness and endeavors to encourage the participants to finish strong.

The Good Kings of Judah Student Guide
The Good Kings of Judah with Answers

In a time of spiritual and political turmoil, the Prophet Isaiah spoke Yahweh’s message to his people in Judah. Surrounded by pagan enemies and facing unfaithfulness in their own nation, what could the faithful of Judah expect from God? Would he remain true to them while also judging the unrighteousness of his “treasured nation”? Could these people really become God’s servants to share his message with the world? Many of the answers in Isaiah ring startlingly true in our culture today. Old Testament scholar John N. Oswalt illuminates God’s warning to his people and his plan for their ultimate redemption.

The time in which Jeremiah ministered was perhaps the most difficult period that the nation of Judah ever experienced.  Things were falling apart, and it appeared that God had abandoned his people to their enemies. But worse than the Babylonians on the outside was the corrupting influence of sin on the inside. Recognizing the frightful similarities between Jeremiah’s day and our own, this study will enable the Bible student to put their hope in God when all appears to be lost.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)

While many have urged us to think about marriage psychologically, sociologically, economically, biologically, anthropologically, and historically, few have offered to help us think about it in the most important manner of all: theologically (biblically). To try to understand marriage without referencing God makes as much sense as studying aviation without making mention of the Wright brothers! Therefore, in this study, Stan Key examines the biblical roots of civilization’s most significant institution. (Recorded during the Fall Bible study, 2016.)

There are a lot of intellectual questions troubling many in our world today. This series seeks to answer a few of them—honestly. Finding honest answers to these questions doesn’t make faith inevitable but it does make faith possible. At an intellectual level, we hope these lessons will help to resolve some of your deepest questions and doubts about the meaning of life. At a spiritual level, we pray these lessons will help you to love the Lord your God with all your mind (Matthew 22:37). At a practical ministry level, we want these lessons to equip you to be a better witness, ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you (I Peter 3:15).

The last book of the Bible is unlike any other book in the Bible. Filled with images of dragons, ten-headed monsters, angel armies, mysterious numbers, and plagues of cosmic proportions, it requires a sanctified imagination to understand it properly! Though many assume the book is a kind of crystal ball to help chart out the sequence of end time events, this study takes a different approach. John writes as a pastor. His desire is to help the believers in the churches of Asia both survive and thrive as they live in the evil empire of first century Rome. This book is perhaps the greatest work on pastoral theology ever written! Though John’s words certainly point to the final future victory of the Lamb, they are profitable today for all believers everywhere. Revelation invites us not only to decipher a code but also to trust in the Lamb! "Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near." Revelation 1:3
