During his professional career, John has held faculty positions at Barrington College, Asbury Theological Seminary, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Wesley Biblical Seminary. In addition, he served a term as president of Asbury College (now University). Currently, Dr. Oswalt is a visiting distinguished professor of Old Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary. He is an ordained minister in the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

John is the author of numerous scholarly articles and books, including a two-volume commentary on Isaiah in the New International Commentary on the Old Testament series. He also wrote the Isaiah volume in the New International Version Application Commentary, and the commentary on Exodus in the Cornerstone Commentary. He was the Old Testament editor of the Wesley Bible (Thomas Nelson) and served as consulting editor for the New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis (Zondervan, 1997). Bible Studies by John Oswalt

In a time of spiritual and political turmoil, the Prophet Isaiah spoke Yahweh’s message to his people in Judah. Surrounded by pagan enemies and facing unfaithfulness in their own nation, what could the faithful of Judah expect from God? Would he remain true to them while also judging the unrighteousness of his “treasured nation”? Could these people really become God’s servants to share his message with the world? Many of the answers in Isaiah ring startlingly true in our culture today. Old Testament scholar John N. Oswalt illuminates God’s warning to his people and his plan for their ultimate redemption.
