Scripture reading: I Corinthians 12:12–31

One Another

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. (Matthew 18:20)

Here I am Lord, in my pew, You know what I’ve come to do:

Me and Jesus have a date, And I hope he’ll not be late.

As I worship, as I pray, Let me meet with him today.

But these people next to me, Interrupt my reverie!

How can I connect with God Sitting next to folks so odd?

“O dear Lord, please give me grace To forget they’re in this place!”

God listened to my selfish cry And answered with a sharp reply:

“I fear you have a heart of stone To think I’m here for you alone.

My glory comes when two or three Connect with each and each with me.”

So to those upon my pew, I humbly need to ask of you:

“Can you forgive my foolish pride And sit with me close by my side?

For now I know you are the key

If Jesus comes to meet with me.

If our worship would be true, You need me and I need you;

Father, mother, sister, brother, God’s own family—one another!

Jesus comes and gives his grace When we see each other’s face.

 Every day I see Jesus Christ in all his distressing disguises. —Mother Teresa
