Scripture reading: Isaiah 43:10–13

Stand Up and Say So!

A Personal Paraphrase of Psalm 107

God is good and His love never quits!

If you are one of those He’s rescued from trouble—well, stand up and say so!

Why are you silent about what He has done?

Some of you were so messed up you almost self-destructed.

You tried to find your own way but only succeeded in getting more and more lost.

But in your desperation you cried out to God.

And He rescued you!

So give thanks to the Lord for his never-ending love.

So you made one stupid choice after another.

And what was the result? You wasted away in body, mind and spirit.

But in your desperation you cried out to God.

And He rescued you!

So give thanks to the Lord for his amazing love. Don’t be quiet about it.

He sent his word and saved you from the abyss.

Stand up and say so!

Some of you looked for thrills: travel, adventure, sports, investments.

And the foolish risks you took almost destroyed you!

But in your desperation you cried out to God.

And He rescued you!

So give thanks to the Lord. He delivered you and brought you safely home.

His grace was greater than your sin.

Stand up and say so!

Don’t you see what I’m saying?

Our God can turn a garden into a desert wasteland.

But He can also turn a desert into a well-watered garden!

Smart people will think this over.

Nothing is greater than God’s love!

When I enter that beautiful city, and the saved

all around me appear, I hope that someone will

tell me, “It was you who invited me here.”
